Donation of Historical Objects/Records

(artifacts, archival, books, textiles, ephemera, family histories, converted digital and born digital files, media, etc.)

Most of the objects and records in the collection of the Riley County Historical Society were received through donation. Our collection focuses specifically on objects and records which help to tell the history of Riley County, without duplicating our existing holdings.

What are we interested in?

  • Objects and records that tell the story of Riley County such as photographs, letters, diaries, yearbooks, advertisements, school records, business records, organizational records, and more.

  • Objects that were made in Riley County, by a Riley Countian, or used in Riley County that give  significant information about Riley County, its people, or have a direct relationship to important events or people in our County’s history. Furthermore, such items should illustrate important parts of Riley County life. In most cases, objects considered for donation must be in good condition. However, they do not have to be in perfect condition.

We are very happy to consider any object or record that you might consider donating. Please call the Riley County Historical Museum’s Curator of Collections at 785-565-6490 or contact us.

Please note that we reserve the right to accept or deny any donation of objects or records based upon the criteria listed above. If we choose not to accept a donation, we are happy to help locate a suitable home for an item that may still be historically important, but simply does not meet the criteria of our institution’s Collections Management Policy.
